Video: Bourdain does a Calçotada

It’s calçot season folks! We’re actually nearing the tail end of calçot season here, and so here in Catalunya people are less excited about calçots these days than they were when the season first started in January. I was talking with a colleague the other day who told me he had been to 7 calçotades in the last month. He was burnt out on calçots and the late afternoon red wine hangover associated with them. I’ve been too busy to get to one myself this season, so I’ve been reveling in other people’s calçotada, living vicariously as it were.

I’d been hunting around the Internet looking for this clip for a while to show all of you who have never been to a calçotada what one is like. In it, my beloved Anthony Bourdain gets his hands and face dirty with some calçot grubbing and some porró drinking. Check it out after the jump.

For those of you who are new to Catalan cuisine, we’re preparing a “Cultural Fundamentals” post to explain the basics of and the history behind the calçotada — along with a list of places were you can get your calçotada on in and around Barcelona — so stay tuned.
