Catalan Food Photo of the Day: Pa amb Tomàquet (for the big game)

Today’s image is an amazing photo of that beloved Catalan staple, pa amb tomàquet. We chose to feature this dish today because we were inspired by a message on the Facebook page of Cuina Catalana, which read (translated): “Barça fans and football fans in general: today more than ever, pa amb tomàquet, Catalan embotits, anchovies, Catalan cheeses…which won’t require our nervous selves to cook anything complicated.”

What do they mean? Well, tonight is a make or break game for the home team, FCB, which is playing the Inter of Milan tonight. And big games here in Catalunya tend to mean no cooking, but a lot of eating: pa amb tomàquet, pernil, formatge, olives…and a good Catalan wine to wash it all down. Who wants to cook when such an exciting game is at stake…and when there is so much ready-made deliciousness to be had in the form of traditional Catalan products? Bon profit!
