Catalan Food Photo of the Day: Botifarres

This spectacular image of botifarres (Catalan sausages) on the grill comes to us from JaulaDeArdilla from EatCatalunya’s Flickr Group. Beyond just your typical sausage, botifarra is a Catalan culinary symbol, as iconic within the cuisine as pa amb tomàquet and calçots, and perhaps the king of all Catalan meat products. In fact, botifarra is the protagonist in what is arguably Catalonia’s most emblematic dish, botifarra amb mongetes (botifarra with white beans).

As the weather warms up here in the Catalan region, more and more botifarres will be going over hot coals on grills everywhere, and enjoyed with a bit of wine from the porró. In an upcoming Cultural Fundamentals feature, we will be exploring all things botifarra, with historical and cultural background about this very Catalan sausage variety.

Bon profit!
