Dos Cielos: Restaurant of the Year…in a hotel?

Large_DosCielosThe Catalan Academy of Gastronomy has chosen its pick for best Catalan restaurant of the year, and it’s not El Bulli. It’s not Alkimia. It’s not El Celler de Can Roca. None of the usual suspects, the Academy’s distinction goes this year to none other than a hotel restaurant.

Dos Cielos, located in the ME hotel — a luxury property in Poble Nou, a traditionally blue collar Barcelona neighborhood — is not just any hotel restaurant. Chefs Javier and Sergio Torres are dedicated to making Dos Cielos a dining destination for fine palates everywhere, not just hotel guests. And since its opening in late 2008, Dos Cielos has already made a splash locally with its use of fine ingredients and a careful blending of seasonal traditional Catalan fare with nods to other cuisines and interesting updates. Oh, and the view of the entire city of Barcelona from its location on the 24th floor of the ME doesn’t hurt, either.

Tasting menus start at 60 euros per person and Dos Cielos boasts a cellar of more than 400 wines to choose from.
