Denominación de origen Conca de Barbera: Conca de Barbera, a Comarque in Tarragona in southern Catalunya, is a place where culture and wine meet. A visit to this region to taste the wines at the modernist wineries where they are made is not to be missed, and there is whole route that one can take going from winery to winery, enjoying both tasting and the sights. The modernist architecture of the wineries in Conca de Barbera are the work of famous architects Cesar Martinell and Pere Doménech.

Conca de Barbera spreads across 1600 acres, and the climate varies from Mediterranean on the coast with mild summers to continental inland, with intense winters. Temperature here varies a lot from day to night.

The territory of Conca is crossed by the Francoli river and its tributary the Anguera, and these two rivers influence the type of soil here. The altitude of this area varias from Estas tierras están atravesadas por el río Francoli y a su afluente el Anguera y su influencia configura el tipo de suelo. The soil is calcified and weak in organic matter, and the altitude of 1000 to 2000 feet above sea level makes wines from this region fresh and light.

Authorized Grape Varieties:
Ull de llebre, black Garnacha and Trepat are the type of grapes used for red wines from Conca de Barbera, which are smooth and flavorful. Rosés are made mostly with Trebat, and are fresh, light and raspberry in color. Whites -- consistent, light and aromatic-- are the specialty of this region, and are made with Chardonnay, Parellada and Macabeo grapes and have a moderate alcohol level.




raimat.jpgDenominación de origen Costers del Segre: Located in the province of Lleida with an area of 10,000 acres, the Comarques of this region are Artesa de Segre, les Garrigues, Pallars Jussa, Raimat, Segria and Valls de Riucorb. The climate is Mediterranean with some continental traits such as cold winters and very hot summers. The soil has a high level of calcium and precipitation is scarce.

The wines from this D.O. are extremely diverse, and the techniques used in their production are among the most innovative in Spain. Reds are bold and well-balanced. The production of white is mostly cava. When visiting the Costers del Segre region, we recommend staying at the "casas rurales" in Pallars Jussa.

Authorized Grape Varieties: Chardonnay, Parellada, Macabeo, Xarel·lo, Garnacha blanca, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc for whites and Garnacha negra, Monastrell, Trepat, Samsó, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Ull de llebre, Pinot Noir and Syrah for reds.
